Hardware configuration

Last updated 5 months ago

Depending on the hardware you use (microphone, speaker, leds etc), you may need to go through some preliminary configuration. Sam provides some helpers to automate this process with common hardware. In most cases, you don’t need to do anything.

Speaker (if you have one)

You can test the speaker using the following command:

sam test speaker

If everything works fine, you should hear on your speaker a voice saying a few words.

You can check that your microphone is working:

sam test microphone
Testing microphone
Say something in the microphone, then press Enter...

Assuming you have a speaker, if you can clearly hear what you just said, you can move on without further microphone configuration. If you can't hear yourself, start the interactive microphone setup guide:

sam setup audio
Starting microphone setup...
What microphone do you use?
[1] Generic USB
[2] ReSpeaker 7-Mic Array

Once you are satisfied that your hardware setup is working, you are ready to move on to the next step, where you will deploy your first assistant.

You may need to adjust the gain of your microphone. We'll add in the future more information about how to do this.

Enable audio feedback

Audio feedback can be activated to play sounds when voice capture is active or stopped. This feature is not enabled by defaut, you can activate it using the command sam sound-feedback on. You can disable them anytime using sam sound-feedback off.

You need an active speaker to use this feature.
